Dr Nitin Pandey

A delegation of Citizens For Green Doon on Thursday met the PCCF, Dr RBS Rawat to convey their opposition to the proposal to transfer forest land in Raipur to National Technical Research Organization, a Central Agency. A memorandum on the issue was handed over to Dr Rawat. The memorandum states that it had come to their knowledge that the State Government was proposing to transfer the reserved forest land, behind Raipur Police Station, to NTRO to set up Transit facilities. At present the forest has over a thousand healthy Sal trees. The memorandum states that felling of 1000 trees will deal a big blow to the environment of Dehra Dun and the forest department should not agree to such a proposal.

Speaking to reporters, Ruchi Singh Rao of CFGD said that with hundreds of Bighas of government land being subject to repeated encroachments, the government could hand over such land to the organization instead of giving away prime forest land. She said that organization will launch an agitation against any such transfer. Dr Rawat assured the delegates that he would look into the matter and try his best to search for alternative land. He said that the proposal was in its early stages and he would do his best to save the forested land.

Among those who took part in the delegation were Ira Chauhan, Riya, Laksha Mehta, Himanshu Arora & Dr Nitin Pandey
