It was good to see the pains you are taking by touring the country and raising your voice against corruption. Travelling 7,600 kms in 38 days with 43 stops is incredible at any age and if the person is as senior as you, it is absolutely mind blowing. It just underlines the strong feelings in you against the evil of corruption.
A few questions, however, came to my mind as I saw you exhorting the BJP cadres to fight corruption. The first assurance I would like from you is that no black money was used to fund this entire yatra. After all, you are using 14 special aircrafts & 6 helicopters, organizing 43 rallies, innumerable road shows and travelling with a large entourage, all this costs really large amounts of money. Please assure everyone that no black money was used in the entire process. Quite frankly, I wouldn’t believe it, even if you did.
Another assurance I would want from you, since you are crusading against corruption, is that the funds of your own party do not include black money. Since we must clean our own stables before preaching others, I am really inquisitive if you have taken steps to make your party funds clean and transparent, before trying to clean the country.
The third point which has been bothering me for long, is to understand what triggered this sudden urge in you to fight corruption? Over the last 3 years the country has been a mute spectator as BJP Chief Ministers looted the country of billions and billions of rupees. If you had started your campaign against corruption three years earlier, maybe this plunder could have been avoided. Can you place your hand on your heart and say that you had no inkling what these Chief Ministers were upto for so many years? Can you look at your countrymen in their eyes and say honestly that of all the Central BJP did not take a single penny from the money looted by them. While it is true that because of political compulsions your party finally had to sack them, have you thought about returning the plundered money to the country? And please don’t say “Let law take its own course”, because if that was the only thing which mattered, why this yatra?
Advanijji, you have undertaken 6 yatras in all since 1990. Crores of rupees must have been spent on them. Do you think they have really made any difference? Do you really want me to believe that the present yatra will reduce corruption by even a small measure? Perhaps by the time this letter is printed, you will be in a different city raising your voice against corruption. Much as I have admired you over so many years, yet somehow, this call of yours against corruption rings hollow in my ears. Let us practice what we preach to others. Why not start by something as simple as making your party members take a pledge not to indulge in corruption themselves in their personal lives. Perhaps such a pledge will benefit the country more than such yatras.
Do forgive me if I have been talking out of my boots, I’ve always held you in highest esteem.
